Nourish yourself better!

How do we nourish ourselves on a budget - whether thats a time or financial one. I get it, the cost of living is increasing (as all politicians and news readers keep telling us!) and we can see that there is an ever increasing number of things we can spend our time, money and energy on.

So how do we prioritise? First, what are your core beliefs and goals. Work these out to help you prioritise (more on that next month).

Next nourish yourself well. Including whole, healthy foods like nuts and seeds, nut butters, herbs and spices, fruits and vegetables to every meal. Look at what’s in season in your area - thats likely the ripest, healthiest and cheapest food at the supermarket or grocer!

Finally get yourself out of the house. Getting fresh air and exercise every day makes a huge difference to body and mind. This is one of my personal non-negotiables. I have to get outside for fresh air, go for a walk or hang out in the garden (lets face it I’m generally weeding!).

Seems simple right? Because it really can be, especially with the right direction and support.

Here’s a recipe that I often make for breakfast that gives me great nourishment for the day ahead. It's quick, easy and it can be heated up on those cooler mornings.

Easy breakfast smoothie:

  • ½ cup vegetables (sweet potato, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, spinach or whatever you like - I steam extra at dinner and pop them in the freezer)

  • ¼ cup fruit (frozen berries, banana etc)

  • 2 tablespoons oats

  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1 tablespoon nut butter or chopped nuts

  • milk of choice

  • More nut butter, seeds, nuts, berries to serve

Pop it all in a smoothie cup/blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a bowl and top with seeds, nuts and nut butter (I use cashew nut butter with chia, hemp, pumpkin, sunflower and flax seeds). Delicious!
